Help & Support

Which Windows installer should I use?

The following questions will help you choose which installer is right for you.

Should I choose an MSIX or an MSI/EXE installer?

We recommend you use the MSIX installer version of our apps for the best experience. However, if you are experiencing issues and our Windows installation guide hasn’t solved your issue, or you wish to install on a corporate network, please try the MSI/EXE installer version.

Should I choose an (x64) or an (ARM64) installer?

Intel/AMD-based Windows devices, must use (x64) installers. If in doubt these are likely the ones you are looking for.

ARM-based Windows devices, should use (ARM64) installers. If you have such a device (e.g., based on Snapdragon X Elite), we recommend you download the MSIX (ARM64) build; the Windows installation guide is still relevant if you need the MSI/EXE (ARM64) build.

Notes

  1. ARM-based Windows devices will install and run either the ARM64 builds (natively) or X64 builds (in emulation mode with degraded performance). However Intel/AMD-based Windows devices won’t run the ARM64 builds
  2. Installing a mixture of MSIX and MSI/EXE installers on the same device is not recommended and is unsupported. Using the same installer type also ensures Affinity Publisher’s StudioLink feature works correctly
  3. Any ARM device will need to meet the minimum spec for support, though older (lower spec) ARM devices may work better than using x64 in emulation mode
  4. Corporate and Education customers may need to contact their account managers to obtain MSI/EXE installers
